There are a couple of different choices
of "Laksa in a Can" but today I chose "Heinz Malaysian Laksa Soup"...Simply
because it was the most standout can of the bunch. A little superficial
I hear you cry, well yes, I guess it is and I do not care...
It came with a promise of a "spicy noodle soup with coconut milk,
bamboo shoots, lemongrass, chilli & coriander." But being a Laksa
freak, I like to add my own stuff. So purchasing some chicken, celery,
capsicum, i'm ready to go.. |

The can itself is a ring pull version so opening
it was easy; once the lid was peeled back what's inside is what
you expect to see - a yellow/orange coloured thick soup (so far
so good) while it's not the strongest aroma of a laksa it is none
the less still there.
On pouring it into a saucepan, I can see for the first time what
I'm in store for - there are a few smatterings of red and a touch
of green stuff (as the label on the can suggests).
So once the soup is sitting on the hot plate at a medium heat,
I quickly chop up the celery, capsicum and chicken, as well as
a bit of fresh garlic that's lying around.
By now the soup is starting to let off a stronger aroma - but
still not strong enough for me.I throw the chicken into a frying
pan along with some more garlic and lemongrass in order to increase
that fine laksa fragrance.
Once the chicken has started to brown in goes a handful of veggies
and I quickly heat them thru.. Now my concoction is ready to add
to the soup... A swift mix thru and its time to eat!!

This didn't shape up too bad but by itself it would
be very bland. The added garlic and lemongrass was good although
it could have done with some fresh chilli.
Add some extra noodles because the colourless bits of chopped
up spaghetti just don't really cut it..
Heinz Laksa In A Can
Rating (by itself) 4/10
(with added extra's) 6/10
Verdict - Alright for a lazy
Saturday arvo lunch
